KaPow Comics & Coffee Spotlight Gallery
For our local artist showcases this year, we are partnering with one artist at a time and will hang their original artwork in our shop for a period of about 4 weeks. Some original pieces will be available for sale and prints will be available for purchase throughout the gallery show.
The Art of Angel Duran
Angel started drawing at the age of 4 by coloring the drawings his father drew. His first drawing was of Spider-Man. By the time he entered school, he was drawing all kinds of Marvel characters at a level that impressed his art teachers, particularly for his age. By age 8, he was drawing small comics, darker tattoo art, and crafting costumes and props using his art skills. At age 10, Angel began to teach himself how to draw portraits and faces – particularly of women. In middle school he learned graphic design and Photoshop and began to focus more on technical skills by drawing more mechanical things like Transformers, Ironman and vehicles.
He later took drawing classes, learned shading techniques, and started to focus on developing his own style of drawing comic style art. More recently, Angel decided to combine his comic art skills with realism and now creates unique photo realistic pieces using original poses and imagery.
Now, at 21, Angel is hoping for a big break to work with house like Marvel and DC or perhaps another opportunity to showcase his artwork. He continues to learn and remains focused on creating beautiful art.
Angel’s artwork will be on display at KaPow thru July 27th. Prints of his work are available for $15 each. Join us on Saturday, July 27th 12:00 to 4:00 PM for this Artist Spotlight closing and to meet Angel.
