One of the events we are most proud of at KaPow Comics & Coffee is our Local Artist Showcase where we have local artists in our store to show off their amazing artwork, comics, books and other creative ventures. The format we’ve used in the past that is very similar to a mini comic convention with several artists set up at tables with their usual displays seems to have run its course. So, we have decided to try something new!
We are pleased to announce the new “KaPow Comics & Coffee Spotlight Gallery.” We will be partnering with one artist at a time and will hang their original artwork in our shop in the main front seating area for a period of about 4 weeks. Some original pieces will be for sale and prints will also be available for purchase throughout the gallery show. The artist will be in the shop for an opening event and a show closing event. As with all our other events, we will post days/times in the shop, on our Facebook page, and on our website.
Our first gallery show will spotlight the art of Frankie Serna. Frankie is a working artist/designer living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In between creating his next work of art, Frankie enjoys spending time with his wife Shelly and son Ethan.
His professional work has spanned
graphic design, advertising, greeting cards, sequential-art, editorial
cartoons, pop culture and comic book illustrations, along with designing
artwork for skateboards, T-shirts and backpacks. A traditional artist at heart,
Frankie works in a variety of artist media. His programs of choice when
creating digital art are Photoshop, Corel Painter and Sketchbook Pro. His
favorite subject-matter is within the sci-fi, fantasy, and comic book genres.
